Neuware - 'The Fighting Bishop, John Strachan, First Bishop of Toronto; And Other Essays in His Times' is a compelling collection of historical essays centered on one of the most influential and controversial figures in early Canadian history. At the heart of this volume is a detailed portrait of John Strachan, the formidable first Anglican Bishop of Toronto, whose leadership and political maneuvers within the Family Compact shaped the social and educational landscape of Upper Canada.Thomas B. Roberton provides a vivid exploration of the nineteenth-century Canadian frontier, blending biography with social history. Beyond the primary focus on Strachan, the collection delves into the broader context of his era, examining the intersections of church and state, the challenges of colonial administration, and the evolution of religious institutions in a developing nation. These essays capture the spirit of a formative period, offering insights into the men and movements that laid the foundations of modern Ontario. This work serves as an essential resource for those interested in the history of the Anglican Church in Canada, the development of Canadian political thought, and the biographical legacies of the figures who defined the pre-Confederation era. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
