The tale of Bathsheba Everdene and the three men competing for her affections in rural Wessex. The novel which elevated Hardy from a published writer to popular author.
This is the second impression of the first edition, though labelled as the second edition, that includes corrections submitted by Hardy to the publisher in January 1875. Purdy notes that this green binding probably dates from 1877 when 125 quires were remaindered to W.H. Smith & Son. There is a previous owner signature on the verso of the ffep dated 1878 which corresponds with this. An attractive sand-grain cloth, gilt-stamped spine. Light rubbing to covers and internally very clean. Vol. I is lacking the leaf with contents and list of illustrations. N° de ref. del artículo 555
