The Enneagram explains why two people can do the same thing for opposite reasons.

This clear guide walks you through the nine personality types, the fear and desire that drive each one, and practical ways to use what you learn about yourself.

The book builds the framework first, then gives every type its own chapter, then shows how wings, lines, and instincts change the way a type shows up on an ordinary day.

It closes with a straight look at where the system came from and what research has and has not confirmed, so you know how much weight to give it.

It also asks you to read all nine types before settling on a number, because the one that fits you is often not the one you would have guessed at the start.

The book covers:

- The nine-point symbol, the Body, Heart, and Head centers, and the levels of psychological health

- A full chapter for each type, One through Nine, covering core fear, core desire, blind spots, strengths, and how that type behaves with partners, family, and coworkers

- Wings and arrows in plain terms

- Traditional and contemporary readings of the stress and security lines, and why one person can look like a different type depending on the setting

- Self-preservation, social, and one-to-one instincts, with examples from the 27 subtypes

- How to find your type, including the mistype pairs that confuse people most, such as One and Six or Two and Nine

- Conflict styles, feedback, and team friction under deadlines, plus why type should never play a part in hiring decisions

- Growth work for every type: catching triggers before the automatic reaction fires, facing your core fear directly, and building the capacities your type has ignored for years

- Gurdjieff, Ichazo, Naranjo, and the reliability studies compared against the Big Five

Each chapter ends with questions, and example responses in the back let you check your thinking. Reference pages include the nine types at a glance, a type comparison chart, a list of common mistypes, a glossary of terms, and a historical timeline running from the 1910s to a recent systematic review.

This book is for:

- Readers who took an online test and want to know what the number actually means

- Coaches, counselors, and team leaders who want a grounded reference

- Couples, parents, and friends trying to understand why the people close to them react the way they do

- Psychology students who want the history and the evidence in one place

- Anyone who keeps repeating the same reaction and wants to know where it comes from

You finish with a working knowledge of all nine types, a practical method for catching your own patterns as they happen, and an honest account of the model's limits. Read it once to find your type, then keep it close for the moments when someone's behavior makes no sense until you see the motivations underneath it.
