8vo (22 cm), XVII, [1], 312, 6 pp. Publisher's white and olive cloth, gilt-lettered spine and front board, top edge gilt (cloth frayed on front hinge but firm, binding slightly foxed, toning to the paper of the half-title and last leaf, occasional foxing). A very good copy of the third and definitive edition of the history of engraving and etching, revised by Max Lehrs and translated from German by Martin Hardie. It covers engraving in Germany up to the time of Dürer, in Italy up to the mid-16th century, in Germany from Dürer's death to the end of the 16th century, Dutch and Flemish engraving, engraving in France, Italian engraving during the 17th and 18th centuries, engraving in England and the development of mezzotint, German engraving during the 17th and 18th centuries, engraving in Spain, and color prints. Illustrated with 131 images.
