A calendar is not time. It is a map drawn over something that will not sit still.

Every people has drawn that map its own way. Kemet divided the night by thirty-six star groups. The Borana read the new moon against seven stars, the Igbo count the week by its markets, and the Coptic Church still prays the day in seven hours. Meanwhile the phone in your pocket counts cesium atoms while its feed counterfeits the present.

Emit Time walks among these calendars as works of art rather than rival laws: Babylon's sixty and India's yugas, the Agpeya and the Jubilee, Haile Selassie I's grammar of now, Julian of Norwich's God in a point, and a field guide to the calendar supremacists who are sure they found the real New Year. Every chapter closes with open questions to carry, answerable more than one way.

Spell TIME backward and it reads EMIT. What are you sending out with yours?
