About the Authors

Jonathan H. Jiang, PhD, is an award-winning Earth and space scientist and the author of Avoiding the Great Filter: Illuminating Pathways to Humanity’s Future in the Cosmos. His honors include the NASA Exceptional Scientific Achievement Medal and multiple NASA Exceptional Achievement Medals. A Fellow of the American Meteorological Society, he has also served on the National Academies’ committee on the science strategy for human exploration of Mars. His work connects scientific discovery with a deep concern for humanity’s long-term future.

Michael Cortrite, EdD, is a leadership educator and researcher who served for thirty-two years with a Los Angeles-area police department. After retiring from law enforcement, he earned a doctorate in educational leadership from UCLA. He is an adjunct leadership professor at the California Institute of Advanced Management, a research fellow at the Management as a Liberal Art Research Institute, and an educator at the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles. His experience brings a practical perspective on trust, responsibility, and human dignity.
