Elimination was a game. A pastime. Until Jeanelle Oswin’s best friend, Annie, was Eliminated eleven months ago by her Chaser. Now Jeanelle is 17, and the time is ticking down. She has to confront her own Chaser by her 18th birthday in order to survive.Jeanelle’s mother stresses over each cut or bruise Jeanelle acquires, and her father doesn’t know how to deal with the likely Elimination of his daughter. Jeanelle is left to mourn Annie and track down her own Chaser in the little time she has left. If she doesn’t find her Chaser before her 18th birthday, the government will take both of them into custody. And both of them will be Eliminated.Uncovering the identity of her Chaser is key to staying alive, but out of the millions of people living in New York City, how can Jeanelle possibly find one person? Not only is time running out, but Jeanelle can’t kill a fly, let alone a human being. And that’s what this game is, isn’t it — killing? The Elimination of her best friend stole all the trust Jeanelle had in the people around her. She hasn’t spoken a word to her peers in almost a year. But when she slowly develops a friendship with a stranger, she questions the bubble she has put around herself.
