"The Effective School Governor" focuses on the work of the individual governor. It helps the reader develop a clear understanding of his/her own personal effectiveness. It then advises the reader on the best ways to make this effectiveness count, both as an individual governor and as a team member of a governing body. A sequence of carefully structured tasks guides the reader to an informed and practical appreciation of how to function effectively in the role. This book covers: Personal qualities: how to identify, analyse and make the most of them; The individual governor's role: what's required, how to carry out the role, induction, training; Working with others: taking part in meetings, committee work, getting to know and understand the work of the school, building partnerships; and Current thinking: the author pinpoints and summarises the main features of contemporary thinking on how governors can perform effectively. "The Effective School Governor" is an invaluable guide for new and experienced governors in both the primary and secondary sectors. "The Effective School Governor" is the tenth title in "The School Effective Series", which focuses on practical and useful ideas for individual schools and teachers. The series addresses the issues of whole school improvements and new knowledge about teaching and learning, and offers straightforward ideas, which teachers can use to make life more rewarding for themselves and those they teach.
