Paperback. Edward Wolcott has never met a machine he couldn't fix, a bad idea he couldn't improve, or an adjustable wrench he could respect. Then his truck dies on County Road 16.No cell service. No houses. Nothing but darkness, endless rows of corn-and children watching him from the stalks.Edward is fifty-two, stubborn, mechanically gifted, and missing his left hand. What he does have is a custom-built prosthetic attachment system, a lifetime of bad decisions disguised as practical solutions, and an eighteen-inch cordless chainsaw that fits where his hand used to be.That turns out to be useful.Because the children of Lazy Lary's corn farm don't see a stranded motorist. They see supper.Raised almost entirely apart from the outside world, the children live by rules older than they are and obey a family system built on fear, isolation, violence, and the absolute authority of a man called Lazy Lary. Phones are strange. Roads are dangerous. Outsiders lie. Nobody leaves. And people who stop on County Road 16 have a habit of disappearing.Edward should be trying to escape.Instead, after discovering evidence that other travelers came before him and never made it home, he does what Edward Wolcott does best: he starts taking the system apart one piece at a time. What begins as one stubborn man's fight to survive becomes something much bigger-a battle over generations of secrets, missing people, inherited violence, and children who have never been allowed to decide what kind of people they want to become.Dark, violent, absurdly funny, and unexpectedly human, EDWARD CHAINSAW HAND AND THE CHILDREN OF LAZY LARY'S CORN FARM is a rural horror novel about survival, family, freedom, and what happens when a terrible tradition finally meets the one man stubborn enough to refuse to leave it running. The machines give warnings.Edward should have listened. Edward Wolcott has never met a machine he couldn’t fix, a bad idea he couldn’t improve, or an adjustable wrench he could respect.
Then his truck dies on County Road 16.
No cell service. No houses. Nothing but darkness, endless rows of corn—and children watching him from the stalks.
Edward is fifty-two, stubborn, mechanically gifted, and missing his left hand. What he does have is a custom-built prosthetic attachment system, a lifetime of bad decisions disguised as practical solutions, and an eighteen-inch cordless chainsaw that fits where his hand used to be.
That turns out to be useful.
Because the children of Lazy Lary’s corn farm don’t see a stranded motorist.
They see supper.
Raised almost entirely apart from the outside world, the children live by rules older than they are and obey a family system built on fear, isolation, violence, and the absolute authority of a man called Lazy Lary. Phones are strange. Roads are dangerous. Outsiders lie. Nobody leaves.
And people who stop on County Road 16 have a habit of disappearing.
Edward should be trying to escape.
Instead, after discovering evidence that other travelers came before him and never made it home, he does what Edward Wolcott does best: he starts taking the system apart one piece at a time.
What begins as one stubborn man’s fight to survive becomes something much bigger—a battle over generations of secrets, missing people, inherited violence, and children who have never been allowed to decide what kind of people they want to become.
Dark, violent, absurdly funny, and unexpectedly human, EDWARD CHAINSAW HAND AND THE CHILDREN OF LAZY LARY’S CORN FARM is a rural horror novel about survival, family, freedom, and what happens when a terrible tradition finally meets the one man stubborn enough to refuse to leave it running.
The machines give warnings.
Edward should have listened.
