Hardcover. "Economic and Social Conditions in France During the Eighteenth Century" provides a comprehensive analysis of the foundational structures that defined the Ancien Regime. Henri See offers a meticulous examination of the French socio-economic landscape leading up to the Revolution, detailing the complex interplay between traditional feudal systems and the emerging capitalist order. The work delves into the lives of various social classes, from the privileged nobility and clergy to the rising bourgeoisie and the struggling peasantry, illustrating the deep-seated tensions and inequalities inherent in pre-revolutionary society.Through an exploration of land ownership, agricultural practices, industrial development, and maritime commerce, the author elucidates the economic forces that both sustained and destabilized the French monarchy. See emphasizes the significance of agrarian reform and the shifting roles of urban guilds, providing essential context for understanding the eventual collapse of the old order. This historical study remains a vital resource for scholars and readers interested in the structural transformations that precipitated one of the most significant political upheavals in modern history. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
