Octavo, 330 pages. In Very Good minus condition. Bound in publisher's blue cloth, gilt lettering to spine. Some general light shelfwear and rubbing, light bumping to corners. Some offsetting to the front pastedown. Ownership ink of Huntington Cairns to the front pastedown, dated 18 August 1921. Some pencil markings through the first two chapters (and one page with ink). DL consignment. Shelved case 5. Originally published in 1913, An Economic Interpretation is a now largely ignored interpretation of the early history of the United States from the lens of class conflict. Dated when Cairns was 17 at Baltimore City College (high school). Huntington Cairns was an an author, former federal censor and one-time secretary of the National Gallery of Art. His book 'The Limits of Art was praised by the The New York Times as "perhaps the best anthology of this or any other generation." He went on to study at the University of Maryland Law School in Baltimore and was awarded first prize for his thesis on law of charitable trusts in Maryland in 1925. 1402333.
