The Duke of Clarence and Avondale, Prince Albert Victor, to Southern India in 1889 is mentioned in several books about British India, royal tours, and colonial history .Thirteen Years Among the Wild Beasts of India by George Peress Sanderson chronicles his elephant-catching techniques, which were showcased during the Duke's visit. Mervyn Smith and The Kipling Journal also touch upon this historical moment and its cultural significance. About The Author: Sir John David Rees, 1st Baronet (1854–1922), was a British colonial administrator in India and a Member of Parliament. , he joined the Indian Civil Service in 1875, serving in South India, later becoming the British Resident in Travancore and Cochin. Rees was a staunch supporter of the British Raj, writing extensively on India, including The Real India (1908). After retiring in 1901, he became a Liberal MP and later Unionist MP. His daughter, Rosemary, was a pioneering female pilot during WWII. He was knighted in 1919 and his son succeeded him as baronet and George Peress Sanderson (1848–1892) was a British naturalist and public works officer in Mysore, known as the "Elephant King." His success in elephant capture led to his fame, and he even organized demonstrations for royalty. Sanderson wrote Thirteen Years Among the Wild Beasts of India, sharing his experiences in India.
