Hardcover. Can an ancient hymn still say something meaningful to a modern physician?A Doctor Reads the Vedas begins with that question.Dr. Rajiv Singal approaches India's oldest sacred texts with the habits of a working doctor: observe carefully, distinguish evidence from interpretation, acknowledge uncertainty and never claim more than the facts can support.Moving through the Rigveda, Atharvaveda and selected Upanishadic passages, he examines ancient reflections on breath, the human frame, fever, wounds, food, water, sleep, dreams, mental suffering, plants, childbirth, aging and death. Each chapter asks three essential questions: What does the text actually say? What does a physician notice? What can-and cannot-honestly be claimed? The result is neither a defence of miraculous "Vedic science" nor a dismissal of ancient insight. It is a disciplined and deeply personal conversation between medicine and memory, science and wonder, professional experience and inherited tradition.Written for intelligent general readers, doctors, students and members of the Indian diaspora, A Doctor Reads the Vedas offers an accessible entrance into the Vedic world without requiring any prior knowledge of Sanskrit or Indian philosophy. This is not a book of treatment. It is a book about attention, humility and the enduring human obligation to come when called. This item is printed on demand.
