Neuware - What if the problem with theological education is not what Christians are taught-but what they are taught first Christian theology has spent centuries developing sophisticated systems for organizing revelation. Christian theology has spent centuries developing sophisticated systems for organizing revelation. Those systems are valuable, necessary, and often remarkably precise.
But they are not revelation itself.
The Divine Architecture argues that theological formation has often begun one level too late: with the categories used to organize divine revelation rather than with the revealed reality those categories describe.
Beginning with the Johannine declarations that God is love, God is light, and in him is life. Jamie Thornberry develops a structural argument for putting revealed reality before the theological architecture built around it.
The book tests this proposal against seven questions every theological system must answer:
How is God defined?
How is creation explained?
How is evil accounted for?
How are human nature and corruption explained?
How is salvation explained?
How is revelation distinguished from speculation?
How are formation and transformation produced?
The result is not a replacement for systematic theology. It is a challenge to its order.
The traditional loci are treated as real, useful, and indispensable—but also as derived structures. The councils, scholastics, Reformed theologians, and Puritans are examined seriously, and the book explicitly identifies places where the traditional arrangement does work the proposed framework cannot.
The practical proposal is deliberately modest: one course, one semester, placed before or alongside the first systematic theology course—not as a replacement for systematics, but as its preface.
At the center of the argument is a simple movement:
Light discloses. Love reorders. Life embodies.
The Divine Architecture is for readers who want to think seriously about Scripture, systematic theology, theological education, Christian formation, and the relationship between theological categories and the reality they were created to describe.
The question is ultimately simple:
What came first—the map, or the country?
For pastors, professors, seminary students, theologians, and serious Christian readers, this is an invitation to reconsider not simply what theology teaches, but how theological formation begins. Grab your copy and be transformed by the Reality of LOVE LIFE and LIGHT.
