Paperback. "The Distinctive Features of the Christian School" provides a profound examination of the philosophical and practical foundations of Christian education. T. Van Der Kooy explores the essential characteristics that differentiate a Christian institution from its secular counterparts, arguing that a school's identity is not merely defined by the inclusion of religious instruction but by a comprehensive worldview that permeates every aspect of the curriculum and pedagogical approach. The work delves into the integration of faith and learning, addressing critical questions regarding the relationship between the school, the home, and the church. Van Der Kooy emphasizes the shared responsibility in nurturing both the intellectual and spiritual growth of students. By outlining the specific traits that should define such institutions, the author offers insights into the role of the teacher as a spiritual guide and the importance of fostering an environment where academic excellence is pursued within a faith-based framework. This book serves as a significant resource for educators, administrators, and parents seeking to understand the enduring principles of a Reformed approach to schooling. It provides a compelling look at the development of Christian pedagogical theory and its practical application in the classroom, emphasizing the unique value of a dedicated religious education. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
