Paperback. Clara is thirty-three, married to a decent man, and living a life that always balances, like the columns of numbers she reviews every day at her accounting job. Nothing is wrong. Nothing, either, makes her feel alive.Everything changes the night she meets Veronica: an older, wealthy woman, sure of herself in a way Clara didn't know was possible. What begins as an unlikely friendship reveals itself, slowly, as the door into a secret world that has spent sixty years operating in the shadows of Viennese high society: women who learn to reclaim, in the privacy of their own homes, the control the world never granted them in public. And husbands who learn, with patience and without shame, to surrender it.Clara will have to decide how far she's willing to go to stop being the woman who waited her turn, and what she's willing to risk to finally become the woman she was always capable of being.A dark, addictive novel about power, male submission, and the awakening of a woman who decides, for the first time in her life, to stop apologizing for what she wants. Clara is thirty-three, married to a decent man, and living a life that always balances, like the columns of numbers she reviews every day at her accounting job. Nothing is wrong. Nothing, either, makes her feel alive.
Everything changes the night she meets Veronica: an older, wealthy woman, sure of herself in a way Clara didn't know was possible. What begins as an unlikely friendship reveals itself, slowly, as the door into a secret world that has spent sixty years operating in the shadows of Viennese high society: women who learn to reclaim, in the privacy of their own homes, the control the world never granted them in public. Clara will have to decide how far she's willing to go to stop being the woman who waited her turn, and what she's willing to risk to finally become the woman she was always capable of being.
A dark, addictive novel about power, male submission, and the awakening of a woman who decides, for the first time in her life, to stop apologizing for what she wants.

Acerca del autor
Dorine Matcham writes dark, unapologetic romance for readers who like their stories with teeth. Her novels explore the collision of luxury and obsession - women who have everything money can buy, and go looking for the one thing it can't: the feeling of being truly alive.
Matcham splits her creative life between old European elegance and the world's most extreme corners of desire, drawing inspiration from the places where wealth, power, and vulnerability blur into one. Her stories don't flinch from the uncomfortable questions: how far will a woman go to escape her own numbness, and what does she become on the other side?
Chronicles of the Abyss is her debut series.
