Growth of wireless communications is demanding increased system capacity for mobile communications satellites - digital beamforming technology provides a promising cost-effective solution to this problem. This text discusses beamforming techniques and results, state-of-the-art supportive technologies and promising applications for wireless communications.

Dr. John Litva is director of the Communications Research Laboratory and professor of electrical and computer engineering at McMaster University in Ontario, Canada. A principal investigator and thrust leader with the Telecommunications Research Institute of Ontario (TRIO), he also serves as a consultant to both government and industry. He earned his Ph.D. in Physics from University of Western Ontario. Dr. Titus Lo holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from McMaster University, where he is a senior research engineer for the Communications Research Laboratory. Currently he is researching the design, development, and application of intelligent antennas in wireless communications.
