Paperback. "A Dictionary of Color" is a comprehensive and authoritative reference work dedicated to the systematic classification and nomenclature of color. Authored by A. Maerz and M. Rea Paul, this seminal text serves as a bridge between the scientific measurement of light and the practical application of color in art, industry, and design. The work is highly regarded for its rigorous approach to organizing thousands of color samples, providing standardized names and visual representations that facilitated a common language for professionals and enthusiasts alike. The volume remains a vital resource for designers, historians, and scientists interested in the historical evolution of color theory and standardization. It meticulously documents the relationship between various shades, tints, and hues, offering a detailed snapshot of how colors were perceived and categorized during the early 20th century. By establishing a precise framework for color identification, "A Dictionary of Color" continues to be an essential study in the aesthetics and physics of the visible spectrum, making it a cornerstone for understanding human color perception and its professional documentation. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
