As new condition heavy oversized (12 inches tall) glossy color photographic stiff softcover wraps with additional extended inner front and rear cover French-style jacket type flaps. Table of Contents is as follows: Introduction; The Birth of an Industry; The Arrival of True Mass Production; The Growth Years; The 1950s; The 1960s; The 1970s; The 1980s; The 1990s; Concept Cars and the Future and Index. Profusely illustrated with both black-and-white and color photographs. "The models are legendary; the names alone conjure images of power, independence, and dynamism - they are the cars that have rolled off the production lines of Detroit and the best can be found on these pages. The auto industry touches all North Americans in a way that no other industry does. While we may not have been the first to build a motorcar, once we got started we quickly built the biggest and the finest. This was possible because during the 20th century the economy was continually expanding, despite the 1929 Wall Street Crash and the Great Depression. An expanding economy meant more disposable income. And nearly everyone dreamed of spending money on a car. From the Ford Model T of the earliest days to the great Chevys, GTOs, Corvettes, Mustangs, and Thunderbirds of the 1950s and 1960s, right up to today's icons - perhaps the Dodge Viper - we have always wanted cars to fantasize about, to aspire to, and - in our later years - cars with histories so vivid they have the power to transport us back to our youth. The Detroit auto industry is a world-class business and one of the pillars of our massive economy. But most important of all, it has always been, and it remains today, the supreme symbol of the great American dream. The greatest cars to have ever been built in the legendary Motor City will seem to rev off these pages. Get an overview of the industry: its birth, growth, and position in the modern marketplace. Compare the changing designs from decade to decade, spanning the earliest days of the business to the cars of the future. This is one wild ride you'll want to take again and again." - from the extended inner front cover flap.…

Descripción de la tienda
Vero Beach Books is an antiquarian bookseller with a constantly updated inventory of rare out-of-print books, signed books, children's books, plus a large inventory of ephemeral items such as major U.S. city newspapers going back 100 years and more, golden and silver age fine condition comic books (soon to be added), and many other ephemeral items as well as much more recent popular volumes. We have been in business for 25 years, originally known as Emerson Books (named after one of our owner's favorite authors, to wit, Ralph Waldo Emerson) located back then in Westport, Connecticut. That said, we are here to serve you, to offer you fine quality items that are conservatively described so that you will always be pleasantly surprised and delighted with your purchase. Twenty-five years in the bookselling business has borne out our stellar service oriented reputation; the only difference is that now we are located in the almost always sunny and warm climate of Vero Beach, Florida. Again, we are here to serve you and, as was the case when we were previously known on ABEBooks.com as Emerson Books, we will continue to offer our very popular 100% free search service for those hard to find books rare and out of print books. Oftentimes we are also able to obtain these rare finds at very good discounts to our customers' so it is always worth contacting us in such cases!
