London is suffocating under a thick blanket of yellow fog, Thames silt, and utter criminal lunacy. At 221B Baker Street, Dr. John Wilson longs for nothing more than a quiet pipe, an unburnt pot of tea, and a single day unplagued by catastrophic household destruction. Instead, his sitting room has become the frontline of an ideological war between two deeply unbalanced investigative intellects: Mr. Shylock Soames, a manic hyper-empiricist convinced that every cold mutton chop and missing sock conceals an imperial conspiracy, and Monsieur Harry Parrot, an impeccably coiffed Belgian esthete whose obsession with psychological symmetry and sartorial perfection borders on clinical madness. When an emotionally volatile prize mallard named Gertrude is abducted alongside a mechanical whalebone walking stick-heralded only by the arrival of a sodden, petrified scone delivered to their hearth-the unlikely partners are propelled into an investigation that threatens to unravel what little sanity the capital possesses.
What follows is an escalating descent through the soot-stained underbelly and high-society drawing rooms of Victorian London, leaving a staggering wake of municipal wreckage. Clad in soot-streaked bedsheet togas after an unfortunate incident destroys their trousers, Soames and Parrot pursue a phantom trail of webbed footprints, rogue coal barges, and buttered whiskers across town. Standing against them is Arthur Pringle-a frustrated theatrical accountant turned self-anointed criminal mastermind styling himself "Mori-Arty"-who is determined to hold the Empire hostage to an avant-garde artistic revolution known as the "Turnip Rhapsody." While Parrot laments the tragic asymmetry of London's alleyways and Soames constructs elaborate mathematical proofs pinning the crimes upon an international root-vegetable syndicate, poor Dr. Wilson can only watch in mounting horror as their hansom cab collisions, explosive pastry duels, and dressing-room brawls draw ever closer to the highest echelons of power.
From the muddy bogs of Hampstead Heath to a catastrophic climax in the gilded halls of Buckingham Palace, the trio must prevent an unhinged tap-dancing saboteur from bringing the British government to its knees. Sharp-witted, relentlessly paced, and bursting with dry Victorian irony, Detectives Soames and Parrot is a riotous collision of classic Holmesian deduction, Agatha Christie eccentricity, and breathless physical farce. It is a tale where intellectual arrogance meets pastry-based warfare, proving beyond all shadow of a doubt that the line separating supreme deductive genius from complete and unmitigated disaster is as thin as a single stray whisker.

**Please note our transit times are from the date of dispatch.** We first started out as “The Paperback Exchange,” a chain of physical bookstores where we would part exchange your beloved books for new stories to transport you to faraway places. However, as shopping started to evolve to online shops and marketplaces, we bid our stores goodbye to become “PBShop.” This transition has only allowed us to blossom as we now ship thousands of titles to book lovers across the globe. We pride ourselves in being a community of local book lovers which allows our passion and devotion to shine in everything we do. In 2020 we not only celebrated our 20th birthday but our 1st birthday as being completely employee owned after becoming an E.O.T in September 2019. We are proud to be different and embrace standing apart on a book mountain by working from a virtual inventory which allows us to provide thousands of books that may be difficult to get for your bookshelf or your studies. Working with a number of different suppliers allows us to explore other avenues such as puzzles, sheet music and even stationery so we really do have something for everyone. Life is about being versatile in all realms of existence. If this is your first purchase with us, or you are a returning customer, we would like to welcome you to the PBShop family, for there is no friend as loyal as a book. We are a company who put our customers at the centre of everything we do as we understand the importance of reading because once you learn to read, you will forever be free. There are a whole lot of things in this world of ours that we are yet to explore, which is why we will forever inspire curious minds.…
