Death-Bed Scenes offers poignant glimpses into the final moments of individuals within the 19th-century Scottish religious community. Authored by Alexander Moody Stuart, this collection provides intimate accounts reflecting on faith, mortality, and the enduring power of religious belief. The narratives capture a range of experiences, from those comforted by their steadfast adherence to the Church of Scotland and the teachings of the Shorter Catechism, to encounters with Antinomianism and reflections on sacraments like Baptism and the Lord’s Supper.

With figures such as C. J. BROWN, THOMAS BOSTON, and JOHN JOHNSTONE mentioned, this work provides historical context surrounding key religious figures of the time. Through vignettes of everyday individuals—including a clergyman’s daughter, members of the COVENANTERS, and residents of Edinburgh, Torphichen, and Dundee—Death-Bed Scenes presents a deeply human perspective on death and spirituality during a period of significant religious and social change. This exploration into the lives and deaths of ordinary people provides enduring insights into the spiritual landscape of 19th-century Scotland.
