Descripción del artículo del vendedor

London and New York Routledge (Taylor & Francis Group) 2004 Paperback, xvi+340pp., 16x24cm.,ills. in b/w., in very good condition (covers with light traces of use). ISBN 9780415344494. "The Dead and their Possessions: Repatriation in Principle, Policy and Practice" is an edited volume introducing the global and multidisciplinary discourse on repatriation of human remains and associated artefacts. Originating from key sessions of the World Archaeological Congress, this collection gathers contributions that survey contemporary principles, public policies and practical case studies about returning ancestral human remains and cultural objects to indigenous communities. The book foregrounds ethical, legal and cultural dimensions where museums, universities and governments negotiate the future of human remains uncovered through archaeological or colonial contexts, and highlights diverse indigenous assertions of rights to reburial and cultural sovereignty. This volume is structured around thematic sections and individual papers that critically engage with repatriation theory, international policy frameworks, museum practice and indigenous perspectives. Contributors analyse how human remains and their cultural affiliations have been retained for scientific study, the evolving ethical debates around colonial collections, and repatriation claims made by descendant communities. Case studies range in geographic scope, illustrating the varied legal and cultural outcomes of repatriation efforts in different national and institutional settings. The book integrates archaeological, anthropological, ethical and legal insights to map the achievements and ongoing challenges in ensuring respectful and equitable treatment of the dead and their associated material heritage. Cressida Fforde is an independent researcher affiliated with the Institute of Archaeology, University of London, specialising in cultural heritage and repatriation studies. Jane Hubert is Senior Research Fellow and Honorary Senior Lecturer, and Paul Turnbull is Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Cross-Cultural Research, Australian National University. Together they edited this multidisciplinary volume, bringing expertise from anthropology, museum practice, heritage policy and cross-cultural research to the subject of human remains and cultural property repatriation.
