Neuware - 'The Dance' is a scholarly and evocative examination of the history and evolution of dance as a fundamental human expression. Co-authored by the celebrated folk musicologist Cecil J. Sharp and the esteemed art historian A.P. Oppé, this work offers a sweeping survey of rhythmic movement, tracing its development from ancient ritualistic roots to the refined stages of the early 20th century. The text delves into the social and artistic dimensions of dance, with a particular emphasis on the traditional folk dances of England and the continent. The collaboration between the authors allows for a multidimensional approach, blending technical insights into choreography with a sophisticated analysis of how dance has been represented in the visual arts. Readers will find detailed discussions on the transition from communal folk traditions to the structured elegance of courtly ballet and the technical innovations of modern performance. By situating the history of dance within a broader cultural and historical context, 'The Dance' remains an essential resource for those interested in the preservation of folk culture and the enduring beauty of human movement. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. This work was reproduced from the original artifact, and remains as true to the original work as possible. Therefore, you may see the original copyright references, library stamps (as most of these works have been housed in our most important libraries around the world), and other notations in the work. This work is in the public domain in the United States of America, and possibly other nations.
