This new, 3rd edition of Digital Image Processing Using MATLAB features extensive revisions of the topics from the 2nd ed. In addition, this edition includes comprehensive new MATLAB implementation of image transforms, spectral color models, geometric transformations, clustering, superpixels, graph cuts, active contours (snakes and level sets), maximally-stable extremal regions, SIFT, SURF, and other keypoint features. An entire chapter is devoted to deep learning, neural networks, and convolutional neural networks. Also new to this edition are 130 MATLAB Projects related to the material covered in the text. These projects enhance the usefulness of the book for self study and in formal classroom settings. New also is the DIPUM3E Support Package that contains selected project solutions, the source code for all functions developed in the book, and most of the digital images in the book. The Support Package is free with purchase of a new (as opposed to used) book. As before, the book integrates material from the 4th edition of Digital Image Processing by Gonzalez and Woods, the leading textbook in the field, and the Image Processing Toolbox from MathWorks, a leader in Scientific Computing. A unique feature of the book is its emphasis on showing how to enhance existing software solutions by developing new code. This is important in image processing, a field that generally requires extensive experimental work in order to arrive at suitable application solutions. More details are included in the book website.
