Andrew Ure (1778-1853) was a Scottish physician, chemist and astronomer, who graduated from the University of Glasgow in 1801. He was Professor of Natural Philosophy at the Andersonian Institution (later Strathclyde University), but moved to London around 1830 to work consulting chemist and as an expert witness. He was elected FRS in 1822. First published in 1839, this title appeared in later editions, including US, until 1878.
