Fifty-two years ago, fifteen students walked onto the stage at Riverside High to perform a mysterious play called The Hollow Crown.
None of them walked off.
The official explanation blamed a tragic accident. The school buried the production, destroyed the scripts, and tried to forget the night that transformed its auditorium into a place of whispers, rumors, and unanswered questions.
Now the play has been found again.
Seventeen-year-old Emma Torres has always preferred watching theater from the shadows. Quiet, uncertain, and more comfortable with a script than an audience, she never imagined herself standing beneath the lights. But when Riverside's drama department announces a revival of the infamous lost play, Emma is drawn to the role of Cordelia, the doomed princess at the heart of its story.
Her audition is unlike anything she has ever experienced.
And she gets the lead.
As rehearsals begin, the production starts changing them. Actors lose time. Lines appear that no one remembers learning. Stage directions form strange patterns across the floor. Voices whisper from empty wings. Students dream about people who died decades before they were born.
Worst of all, Emma begins to wonder where she ends and Cordelia begins.
Her search for answers uncovers the disturbing history of playwright Eleanor Ashford, a director obsessed with creating a performance so perfect that it could outlive everyone who performed it. What appeared to be a play may actually be something far more dangerous: a ritual disguised as theater, waiting decades for the right cast to finish its final scene.
Opening night is approaching.
The auditorium will be full.
The curtain will rise.
And Emma must discover whether a story written to repeat forever can be given a different ending.
Because on this stage, forgetting your lines may be the safest thing you can do.
And some roles were never meant to be played.
