"Curriculum Construction" is a seminal work in the field of educational theory, presenting a systematic and scientific approach to the development of school programs. Written by W. W. Charters, a leading figure in the functionalist movement of the early twentieth century, this volume explores the fundamental principles of determining what should be taught in classrooms. The text centers on the concept of activity analysis, a method designed to align educational objectives with the actual duties and activities individuals perform in society.

The work provides a detailed framework for educators and administrators to evaluate and structure instructional material based on social needs rather than tradition alone. Charters meticulously outlines the steps necessary to transform broad social goals into specific subjects and lessons, emphasizing the importance of utility and practical application in learning. By bridging the gap between theoretical ideals and classroom practice, "Curriculum Construction" offers profound insights into the evolution of pedagogical strategy and the rigorous logic behind modern instructional design. It remains an essential resource for those interested in the history of education, curriculum theory, and the structural foundations of organized learning.
