Excerpt from A Critical Pronouncing Dictionary of the English Language: Incorporating the Labours of Sheridan and Walker, So Far as Their Examples Are in Accordance With the True Principles of Orthoepy and Established Usage, and Comprising Above Fifty Thousand Additional Words
I shall not say more of my own labours, or criticise those of my predecessors, but I consider it incumbent on me to state the circumstances which led to the publication of Mr. Walker's Dictionary; more especially they are but little known.
