The aim is to involve pupils actively in craft, design and technology (CDT) by encouraging them to tackle design problems, solve problems successfully and develop necessary skills and knowledge. It involves pupils in a wide range of communication skills, applied decision-making and evaluation, and in the practical skills of manufacturing. The blend of design and design evaluation aims to establish both an appreciation of the aesthetic values and a recognition of manufacturing industry's importance. Independent working practice and pride in work are encouraged. The pupil's book features a range of topics including graphics, electronics, structures, materials, energy and the design process. Student exercises for use in class and as homework are also included.
