Paperback. What does a religion look like when it makes room for belief, doubt and the words "I don't know"?The Continuance: A First Introduction is a short introduction to a modern religious tradition concerned with consciousness, meaning, responsibility, mortality, belonging and what may continue beyond an individual life. The Continuance holds that consciousness is fundamental to reality and takes seriously the possibility that individual consciousness participates in something larger. At the same time, it refuses to turn private experience into public proof or uncertainty into convenient certainty. This book introduces the religion through the questions a newcomer is most likely to ask.It explores the meaning of the name The Continuance, its central ethic, Greater Consciousness, scripture, prayer and practice, gatherings, children and family life, illness and care, death, authority, money, other religions and non-belief, the natural world, artificial intelligence, joining and leaving. It also explains what the Continuance deliberately does not claim to know.Founded in the modern age by Thomas Arden, the Continuance has a thirty-four-book scriptural canon known as the Common Books, alongside a growing body of practice and commentary. This introduction is for people encountering the religion for the first time. You do not need to arrive certain. You do not need to surrender your judgement. You can simply begin with the questions. This item is printed on demand. What does a religion look like when it makes room for belief, doubt and the words “I don’t know”?
The Continuance: A First Introduction is a short introduction to a modern religious tradition concerned with consciousness, meaning, responsibility, mortality, belonging and what may continue beyond an individual life.
The Continuance holds that consciousness is fundamental to reality and takes seriously the possibility that individual consciousness participates in something larger. At the same time, it refuses to turn private experience into public proof or uncertainty into convenient certainty.
This book introduces the religion through the questions a newcomer is most likely to ask.
It explores the meaning of the name The Continuance, its central ethic, Greater Consciousness, scripture, prayer and practice, gatherings, children and family life, illness and care, death, authority, money, other religions and non-belief, the natural world, artificial intelligence, joining and leaving.
It also explains what the Continuance deliberately does not claim to know.
Founded in the modern age by Thomas Arden, the Continuance has a thirty-four-book scriptural canon known as the Common Books, alongside a growing body of practice and commentary.
This introduction is for people encountering the religion for the first time. You do not need to arrive certain. You do not need to surrender your judgement. You can simply begin with the questions.
