Paperback. "Contemporary Verse" is a thoughtfully curated anthology that captures the vibrant spirit and evolving landscape of poetry during the early twentieth century. Compiled by A. Marion Merrill and Grace E.W. Sprague, this collection brings together a diverse array of voices from both American and British traditions, offering readers a comprehensive look at the lyrical and experimental movements that defined the era.The selection highlights the transition from traditional sensibilities to emerging modernist styles, featuring works that explore themes of nature, humanity, and the complexities of the post-war world. By presenting these poems together, the editors showcase the artistic innovations and stylistic variety that shaped the literary world of the 1920s. The volume includes contributions that were considered contemporary at its time of assembly, providing a unique snapshot of what was then the cutting edge of literary art.Designed to be accessible to students and enthusiasts alike, "Contemporary Verse" serves as an important bridge between classical forms and the burgeoning avant-garde. It remains a significant resource for understanding the historical context and emotional resonance of early twentieth-century verse, preserving the power of poetic works that spoke to a generation in flux. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
