The position of the school to which I allude is rather difficult to seize. It is not easy 'to comprehend its almost fierce denial that revelation consists of propositions about God, coupled with the affirmation that it consists of the action of God unveiling Him self to man, as though the one excluded the other. Its passionate denunciations of dogma are hard to reconcile with its speculative, almost metaphysical, theology. As far as my present subject is concerned, I should describe it as an attempt to substitute a mystical intuition for the infallibility not only of the Church, but of Scripture and the apostles. There is supposed to be in the human soul a God consciousness, a real contact between God and the spirit of every human being in consequence of this the doctrines of revelation are so nearly akin to the conscience of mankind, that an infallible authority to impose them originally, or to transmit them when revealed, becomes superfluous. What need is there of a divinely guidedorgan of revelation when God reveals Himself immediately to the soul Such an organ is not only useless, but impossible for the divine truth is too great for words, even too wide for conception. The treasure of truth which we possess is so immense, that only a small portion of it can be realized and be coined into a medium of transmission. This incomprehensible greatness of the truth secures us from rationalism; on the other hand, we can dispense with such a mechanical instrument as an infallible Church, because God spirit ually educates the individual Christian, and the truths themselves, however mysterious, are so conformable to human nature, that they are embraced and understood with the least possible external evidence. The constitution of man 1s already so inflammable to divine truth that it bursts into flame with the smallest spark. Thus the profoundest doctrines of Christianity are neither more nor less supernatural than the dictates of the human conscience. The divinity of the Eternal Word and the Incarnation are both so wrapped up in the very constitution of man, that they can make their own way by their native conformity to the needs of man. They come to their own, and, sooner or later, their own will receive them.

Descripción de la tienda
**Please note our transit times are from the date of dispatch.** We first started out as “The Paperback Exchange,” a chain of physical bookstores where we would part exchange your beloved books for new stories to transport you to faraway places. However, as shopping started to evolve to online shops and marketplaces, we bid our stores goodbye to become “PBShop.” This transition has only allowed us to blossom as we now ship thousands of titles to book lovers across the globe. We pride ourselves in being a community of local book lovers which allows our passion and devotion to shine in everything we do. In 2020 we not only celebrated our 20th birthday but our 1st birthday as being completely employee owned after becoming an E.O.T in September 2019. We are proud to be different and embrace standing apart on a book mountain by working from a virtual inventory which allows us to provide thousands of books that may be difficult to get for your bookshelf or your studies. Working with a number of different suppliers allows us to explore other avenues such as puzzles, sheet music and even stationery so we really do have something for everyone. Life is about being versatile in all realms of existence. If this is your first purchase with us, or you are a returning customer, we would like to welcome you to the PBShop family, for there is no friend as loyal as a book. We are a company who put our customers at the centre of everything we do as we understand the importance of reading because once you learn to read, you will forever be free. There are a whole lot of things in this world of ours that we are yet to explore, which is why we will forever inspire curious minds.…
