Neuware - Your rights as a citizen, what police officers are sworn to uphold and must thoroughly understand. What can they actually do to you - and what are your rights when it happens Most people learn what they think they know about their rights from television. The Constitution on the Street is the real version - written by an educator, and retired police chief who spent nearly three decades on both sides of the badge, and just as long teaching the next generation of officers the law that governs the job. This is the entry point to the American Street Law series: a plain-English handbook filled with stories illustrating what police can and cannot do, when your rights attach, and what happens when officers cross the line - built entirely on real cases, not classroom theory. Inside, you'll learn: - The three categories of every police encounter - voluntary contact, investigative stop, and arrest - and why the difference determines everything that follows- What 'reasonable suspicion' and 'probable cause' actually require, explained through real stories instead of legal jargon- When police can search you, your car, or your home - and the warrant exceptions that matter most- What Miranda really means, and why silence is often the smartest response- What to do - and not do - the moment you're stopped- How police, prosecutors, and defense attorneys actually work together, and where the system succeeds and failsWritten like the smart friend who happens to be a retired chief and universtiy professor explaining your rights across the fence - no lecturing, no filler, just what you actually need to know before, during, and after an encounter with police. For citizens, students, community members, and officers who want to understand the law better, what they can do, not just what they can't, without the legal speak. …

What can they actually do to you — and what are your rights when it happens?
Most people learn what they think they know about their rights from television. The Constitution on the Street is the real version — written by an educator, and retired police chief who spent nearly three decades on both sides of the badge, and just as long teaching the next generation of officers the law that governs the job.
This is the entry point to the American Street Law series: a plain-English handbook filled with stories illustrating what police can and cannot do, when your rights attach, and what happens when officers cross the line — built entirely on real cases, not classroom theory.
Inside, you'll learn:
- The three categories of every police encounter — voluntary contact, investigative stop, and arrest — and why the difference determines everything that follows
- What “reasonable suspicion” and “probable cause” actually require, explained through real stories instead of legal jargon
- When police can search you, your car, or your home — and the warrant exceptions that matter most
- What Miranda really means, and why silence is often the smartest response
- What to do — and not do — the moment you're stopped
- How police, prosecutors, and defense attorneys actually work together, and where the system succeeds and fails
For citizens, students, community members, and officers who want to understand the law better, what they can do, not just what they can't, without the legal speak.
