Original b/w geometrically illustrated wraps 21x30cm. (31)pp printed to rectos with numerous b/w drawings + (2) colour photo plates on heavy Kodak paper. Very good. Undated, c1975. This presents the Swedish submission led by Rolf Richard Thies to the competition for a new Conference City in Abu Dhabi in 1975. The team was made up of staff from Thies Arkitekter AB (architectural design), Sven Tyren AB (structural design), PO Andersson Konstruktionsbyra AB (mechanical design), Gosta Sjolander AB (electrical design), Professor Ove Brandt (acoustic consultant), Tomas Hagman & Gosta Jernberg AB (interior decoration), Roland Palm (landscaping), and Stig Victorsson Modeller AB (model and photography). The site was on reclaimed land in the Gulf. Among Thies' fundamental ideas were a climate shell enveloping all parts and decks, flexible enough to be updated. This would be built on a self-contained island connected by a highway to the mainland. It would contain a principal hall, meeting halls, a residential section built around a park, a Presidential residence on its own island (including large bird park, salt water aquarium, and art gallery), a landmark symbol signifying a meeting place, indoor and outdoor parks and gardens etc. The plates show a model of the entire Conference City, and model of a conference room interior. The competition was won by Japanese architect Kisho Kurokawa, who also won the competition for Abu Dhabi's National University in the same year. N° de ref. del artículo 4893
