Descripción del artículo del vendedor

This definitive three-volume set, stands as the most comprehensive record of Van Gogh's life and artistic philosophy. Containing every known letter from the artist to his brother Theo and others, it is illustrated with hundreds of tipped-in color plates and facsimile reproductions of the sketches included in his original correspondence. Key Features: +++ Visuals: The volumes are lavishly illustrated. The unique draw of this edition is that the color plates are "tipped-in" (printed separately and hand-glued onto the page), providing superior color depth compared to modern printing. +++ Binding: Bound in black cloth with a striking gilt-stamped landscape design that runs continuously across the spines of all three volumes. +++ Content: Covers correspondence from 1872 to 1890. Includes letters to Theo van Gogh, Anthon van Rappard, Émile Bernard, and his sister Wil. +++ Presentation: Housed in the original publisher's slipcase, which features a facsimile of Van Gogh's handwriting in white against a black background. Physical Specs: +++ Date: 1959 (Second Edition). +++ Dimensions: 3 Volumes; 9.5 x 7 inches each. +++ Pagination: Vol 1 (559pp), Vol 2 (625pp), Vol 3 (625pp). +++ Format: Hardcover cloth in slipcase. Condition: Fine Books / Fair Slipcase -- The three hardcover volumes are in exceptional condition and appear unread; bindings are tight, gilt is bright, and text blocks are clean. The tipped-in plates are perfect. The slipcase, however, shows significant wear; The heavy slipcase has done its job protecting the books but shows significant wear; the top and bottom edges have split/separated, and there is material loss along the perimeter. The case holds the books but is structurally tender. More than just a biography, this set is the primary source material for all Van Gogh scholarship. Vincent was a prolific writer, and his letters often contained sketches of the masterpieces he was working on, allowing the reader to see works like 'The Potato Eaters' or 'The Bedroom' evolve from a pen scratch in a letter to the final tipped-in color plate. This 1959 edition preserves the high production quality of the mid-century New York Graphic Society, which later reprints failed to match. Keywords: Vincent Van Gogh, Post-Impressionism, Art History, Tipped-in Plates, Theo Van Gogh, Artist Letters, NYGS, 1950s Books, Emile Bernard, Art Reference.
