Churchill, London, Dec. 1, 1796; Preface & Contents); [i]-cviii (Prosodial Grammar, Appendix & "Directions to Foreigners"); unpaginated lexicon, printed in double columns: A-H. Volume 2: half-title; titlepage: [4]pp.; unpaginated lexicon in double columns: J/I-Z. Bound in full, old mottled calf, with red leather title labels on the spines, gilt-lettered: SHERIDAN'S DICTIONARY 1 (& 2), with double-lines gilt across the spines, gilt bordering on cover edges; headbands present, all edges stained light yellow. Engraved heraldic bookplate on both front paste-downs: Netherplace (motto: Optime Quod Opportune), and a more recent, printed book label pasted beneath these plates. Cover corners show light wear, age-related tanning to endpapers. A near fine set; interior is clean & crisp, with few signs of use. A scarce item, especially in this condition.
