A New Book from the Wall Street Journal and USA Today Bestselling Author
Unlock the Hidden Value Inside Your Ideas - and Transform Your Business Into an IP Powerhouse
The world’s most influential brands, creators, and innovators share one defining trait: they think, act, and operate like intellectual property companies. Now, you can too.
In You Are an IP Company: The 12-Step Plan to Increase Your Intellectual Property Influence, Impact, and Income, Wall Street Journal and USA Today bestselling author Kary Oberbrunner, together with Katherine Rubino, a top intellectual property attorney and Partner at Wiggin and Dana LLP, reveal the system used by the world’s most successful brands to locate, protect, and monetize their most valuable asset: IP.
From celebrities to global corporations, the smartest leaders safeguard their trademarks, copyrights, patents, trade secrets, licensing opportunities, and brand assets—not because they are successful, but because that protection creates success.
- Taylor Swift has filed more than 300 trademarks, transforming her creativity into a protected IP empire
- Play-Doh trademarked its iconic scent, proving that even a smell can be protected intellectual property
- The Coca-Cola Company safeguards its legendary formula with rigorous trade-secret protocols
- Companies like Disney, LEGO®, CrossFit, Magnolia, Dr Pepper, and Apple achieved exponential growth by treating IP as their core business strategy, not an afterthought
Most entrepreneurs wrongly assume they have “no intellectual property.” The truth is: over 90% of your company’s value is tied to your IP—if you know how to identify it and protect it.
This book gives you the roadmap.
Inside, you’ll discover:
- Why promoting your idea too soon can destroy its intellectual property value
- How to choose the right IP protection strategy—trademark, copyright, patent, trade secret, or licensing
- A clear 12-step plan for developing your IP influence and impact
- Forty-seven practical ways to monetize your intellectual property
- How to safeguard your brand, creative work, and innovation assets from competitors
- How to turn your products, processes, frameworks, content, and expertise into protected, revenue-generating IP
Whether you’re a creator, entrepreneur, consultant, coach, executive, or business owner, this guide will show you how to identify your hidden IP, protect it strategically, and turn it into long-term income and authority.
Your ideas are powerful.
It’s time to protect them and profit from them, like an IP company.
