Descripción del artículo del vendedor

Undated 1854-1861. decorative Card 21.5 x 29.5, Condition very good & clean. Minimal dot marks right, bottom left corner tip knock, rear has signs in corners of being attached to what we call a Victorian scrap album, and the reason it has survived so well as most likely been hidden away from light for 100 or more years. From the net is very little on The Commonwealth Fire Insurance Company of the State of Pennsylvania, it would seem formed in Pennsylvania with an office in New York in July 1854 and lasted to about 1861. The card states Engraved at J. M. Butler’s Establishment, 84 Chestnut St. Philad’a … From the net found another Commonwealth item in an institution stating Printed by printer. J. M. Butler, Pennsylvania ((John M. Butler) . Comes with a free book illustrated half title page of ‘Memoirs of Joseph John Gurney Published by J.B.Lippincott, Philadelphia’, undated, circa 1854 . Joseph John Gurney (1788 – 1847) was a banker in Norwich(35 miles from us in Thetford) and a member of the Gurney family. He became an evangelical minister of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers), whose views and actions led, ultimately, to a schism among American Quakers. the tenth child of John Gurney (1749–1809) of Gurney's Bank. Gurney campaigned against slavery during trips to North America and the West Indies from 1837-1840. Gurney was an early supporter of Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana and the college was named after his family home, Earlham Hall, The Gurney family also founded the Norwich Insurance Company in Norwich. So we can only presume this came from the Gurney family.* please also see my other associated items. Sons of Temperance Membership certificate for Thomas Taylor 10th March 1859 & also see the Victorian Scrap / prints album mostly relating to the USA, United States of America.…
