Paperback. "Common Trees of Indiana" is a comprehensive field guide and educational resource dedicated to the dendrology and botanical diversity of the Hoosier State. Co-authored by forestry experts Joseph S. Illick and Charles Clemon Deam, this work provides a detailed exploration of the various tree species that define the Indiana landscape. Designed to serve as both an instructional manual for students and a practical reference for nature enthusiasts, the book offers clear descriptions and key characteristics to facilitate the identification of native species. The collaboration between Illick and Deam-the latter of whom was a distinguished botanist and Indiana's first state forester-ensures a high degree of scientific accuracy and regional specificity. The text covers a wide array of specimens, from common hardwoods like oaks and maples to more specialized species found within the region's unique ecosystems. By focusing on physical traits, habitats, and the ecological importance of these trees, the authors provide a vital tool for anyone interested in the conservation and study of North American forests. This work remains a significant historical contribution to the study of American botany, capturing the natural heritage of the Midwest. "Common Trees of Indiana" serves as an enduring testament to the importance of forest management and the appreciation of the natural world. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
