The fourth edition of this influential work, first published in 1776. Two volumes, bound in half calf with marbled paper boards and end papers. Collated, lacking the half title to volume II and front blanks to volume I. George Horne, Bishop of Norwich was an English churchman, academic and Fellow of Magdalen College. He held the position of Chaplain to the Ordinary of King George III until 1781, when he was appointed Dean of Canterbury. He went on to accept the less active role of Bishop of Norwich in 1790, the same year as this edition was published, due to his ill health. Horne was a prolific author, contributing works on both ecclesiastical debate and contemporary political issues with this, his most reverred and enduring work. In this, one of his most insightful works, he reflects upon how the Psalms interact with each other, The Old Testament and The Bible as a whole.
