The three items are bound together in a 19th century binding of quarter claret roan with marbled boards and lettered gilt on the spine "Against Dissenters - 1682-1710; the binding is soundly utilitarian if not a thing of inordinate beauty and is stamped on the front paste-down as by Palmer & Howe of Manchester; it's firm and tight if somewhat scuffed and with the front outer hinge cracked; 110x180mm, the contents matching appropriately in size, the middle item about 10mm smaller on each dimension. These are the items: 1. "Two Letters Containing a further Justification of the Church of England Against the Dissenters. The First by One of the Reverend Commissioners for the Review of the Liturgy, at the savoy, 1661. The Second by Dr Laurence Womock, Archdeacon of Suffolk . "; London, Printed for Robert Clavell . 1682; pp [4, being title, advertisement and errata], 89, [2, being list of books printed by Clavell]; a few contemporary minor notes or corrections to the text; page numbers in top margin slightly shaved, title with an old minor repair, a little browned; good. The first letter is attributed to Thomas Pierce, President of Magdalen College, Oxford, later Dean of Salisbury and noted controversialist with a particular animus towards Roman Catholicism. This appears to be the only edition. 2. "A Lay-man's Lamentation on The Thirtieth of January; For the Horrid, Barbarous, and never to be forgotten Murder of King Charles the First, of Ever Blessed Memory. Address'd to Mr Hoadley as a Confutation of his Principles; and Written for the Conversion of all such Fanatical Church-Men, as well as other Rebellious Miscreants, and Sinful Sons of Belial."; Printed for M Corbett . and Sold by John Baker . [London] 1710; title page with a black mourning border; pp 16; paper very browned and cut close to the fore edge in places. This appears to be the only edition of this High Tory pamphlet in opposition to Hoadly's Low Church views. 3." A Sermon Preach'd before the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament Assembled, In the Abbey-Church at Westminster on the Thirtieth of January 1699/1700 . By the Most Reverend Father in God, John [Sharp] Lord Arch-Bishop of York." Printed by H Hills [London] . For the Benefit of the Poor. 1710; pp16; very slight tear in the title page and next and a smal, old smudge later but otherwise very good. An earlier copy of this sermon was printed by J Leake in 1700, these being the only two editions I've located. N° de ref. del artículo 000514
