Stop guessing whether a coin is genuine. Start measuring what counterfeiters struggle to imitate.
Coin Collecting Weigh Scale is a practical, beginner-friendly reference for collectors who want to use digital scales, accurate weight verification, dimensional checks, and specific gravity testing as part of a more disciplined coin-screening process.
The objective is simple: help you move from merely owning a scale to using it correctly, interpreting the numbers intelligently, and knowing when a result requires further investigation or professional authentication. The book explains why weight can expose many common counterfeits, how scale accuracy and calibration affect your conclusions, and where weight testing reaches its limits.
Inside, you’ll discover how to:
Choose a digital scale with the resolution, accuracy, capacity, and repeatability appropriate for numismatic work
Set up a stable weighing environment and reduce errors caused by vibration, airflow, temperature, and static electricity
Calibrate correctly and perform repeatable multi-reading weight checks
Compare results against reference specifications for major U.S., bullion, world, ancient, and medieval coinage
Recognize Pass, Fail, and Investigate results instead of relying on a single number
Combine weight with diameter, edge examination, magnet testing, and specific gravity
Screen silver, gold, copper, nickel, and clad coins for suspicious physical characteristics
Identify potential wrong-planchet, transitional-composition, missing-clad, and other weight-related mint errors
Use practical coin-show and workshop authentication routines
Build stronger records with weight logs, measurements, photographs, and documented results
The guide goes beyond basic weighing. Dedicated sections cover U.S. coinage specifications, major bullion issues, selected international coinage, ancient and medieval weight interpretation, silver and gold counterfeit screening, specific gravity calculations, multi-test diagnostic workflows, variety hunting, and detailed case studies showing situations where weight succeeded—and where it was not enough.
You’ll also learn the crucial difference between a coin that matches its expected mass and one that has actually been authenticated. A correct reading is evidence, not certification, which is why the book repeatedly shows when additional testing or professional examination is appropriate.
Coin Collecting Weigh Scale is designed for collectors who want a more systematic approach to purchases, inherited collections, bullion, coin-show finds, error hunting, and everyday verification—without needing laboratory equipment to begin.
Simple disclaimer: This book is for educational and informational purposes only. Weight analysis is a screening method, not professional authentication, grading, appraisal, legal, or financial advice. Significant purchases should be independently authenticated when appropriate.
A convincing counterfeit can look right, feel right, and still fail a measurement that takes less than a minute. The expensive mistake is often not owning the wrong coin—it is discovering too late that you never tested it properly.
Don’t wait until one bad purchase teaches you why disciplined verification matters. Get your copy today, set up your scale correctly, and make accurate measurement part of every serious coin decision you make.
