Classrooms that give students the space to question, reflect, and create require teachers who can do the same.

Clarity Works is a practical guide to theme-based planning for teachers in grades 6–12 working with multilingual learners, English Language Learners (ELLs), and diverse student populations. Grounded in real classroom experience, this book helps teachers move beyond isolated lessons and create meaningful units that build language, literacy, inquiry, and critical thinking across content areas.

When teachers are clear about what they believe and why they teach, they can create classrooms where students feel safe to take risks, make connections, and grow. From that foundation, theme-based planning invites students to explore larger human questions: What does it mean to belong? To evolve? To act with integrity? To transform?

Rather than focusing solely on content coverage, Clarity Works offers a practical approach to designing learning experiences that connect ideas across disciplines and help students make meaning of the world around them. Whether you teach English Language Arts, social studies, science, or mathematics, the planning approach in this book can be adapted to support deeper learning and student engagement.
