Neuware - The American Civil War from the saddleThe author of this book was just 17 years old when the shells began to fall on Fort Sumter heralding the coming storm of the American Civil War. Determined to play his part he rushed to enlist in the Zouaves, but instead found himself in the ranks of the New York Cavalry. Although he 'started at the bottom' his zeal earned him successive promotions and a rapid commission as an officer. Meyer's absorbing first hand account takes the reader to war in the ranks of the troopers in blue on many campaigns and battlefields of the American Civil War including Second Bull Run, the Stoneman Raid, Brandy Station, Aldie, Middleburgh, Upperville, Bucklands Mill and many others. Henry Meyer combines the activities of his regiment with intimate accounts of his own experiences to create a fine eyewitness view of the war of the Union horse soldiers. Available in softcover and hardcover with dust jacket.
