Print on Demand. This book explores the early history of Methodism in the state of Indiana, dating back to the year 1800 when the territory was still home to a collection of scattered settlements. The arrival of several Methodist preachers and local exhorters in the early 1800s marked the genesis of the Methodist denomination in the region, and over the next few decades, the number of Methodist circuits and membership in the area increased steadily. The author traces the establishment of various circuits, the appointment of circuit preachers, and the challenges faced by these itinerant ministers as they traveled from place to place, often enduring harsh conditions to spread the Methodist message. The book also sheds light on the significant role played by camp meetings in fostering religious revival and growth. The author places the development of Methodism in Indiana within the context of the broader history of the Methodist movement in the United States, highlighting the influence of prominent figures like William McKendree, John Sale, and Peter Cartwright. Overall, this book offers a comprehensive account of the early growth and establishment of the Methodist denomination in Indiana. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

- Minutes and Reports
The Minutes of the old Indiana Conference, have never been published, and since they cover the impor tant years, from 1832 to 1844, the years in which In diana Asbury University was founded, and also the years in which Matthew Simpson and Edward R. Ames were active in its councils, it was thought that the centennial year was an appropriate time to give these Minutes to the Methodists of Indiana. Accordingly the second, and largest part of this volume is devoted to these Minutes. They have been edited with notes, which it is hoped will explain all things necessary for their intelligent reading by an Indiana Methodist.
