This is an antique copy of "THE CHRISTIAN PARLOR BOOK" - Devoted to Science, Literature, and Religion. 1851; George Pratt; New York. Nicely illustrated with numerous full-page engraved portraits and scenes. The book is a collection of fiction, non-fiction, music and poetry - here are some examples of the contents: Supernatural Beings; "A Little Child Shall Lead Them" (1st appearance) and "A Sketch" by Harriet Beecher Stowe; A Page or Two of Balloon History; Henry Wadsworth Longfellow; Wonders in the Deep; A Day at Stratford-on-Avon; Ralph Waldo Emerson; Napoleon as a Civilian; Shakespeare's Hygiene; The Mysterious Knockings; The Puritans and their Institutions. Cloth covers with leather over the spine. Condition: Light soiling to the cloth covers. The leather over the spine has faded/rubbed in places along the left and right edges, and at the top and bottom edges. Small cloth tears at the cover corners. Tight binding with no loose pages. Both covers are securely attached. Consistent foxing to the pages throughout the book. Page 350 has a small area where the top paper layer has peeled (the tear does not penetrate the page). Sixteen pages at the back have half-oval stains at the bottom margin (the text is unaffected). Inscription written in old pencil handwriting on front end paper. Name written in old pen handwriting on the following end paper. Overall the book is in Good condition.…
