"Chinese Political Thought a Study Based Upon the Theories of the Principal Thinkers of the Chou Period" provides a comprehensive exploration of the foundational ideologies that shaped ancient Chinese governance and society. Focusing on the formative Chou (Zhou) period, often regarded as the classical age of Chinese philosophy, this work illuminates the origins of political concepts that have influenced Eastern civilization for millennia.

The text delves into the various schools of thought, including Confucianism, Taoism, and Mohism, detailing how influential figures like Confucius, Mencius, and Lao-tzu addressed the challenges of statecraft, ethics, and social order. By analyzing these primary thinkers, Elbert Duncan Thomas offers profound insight into the evolution of the Chinese state and the philosophical underpinnings of its political structures. This study remains a significant resource for understanding the intellectual history of China, providing a scholarly bridge to the complex moral and political debates of the ancient world. It is an essential read for students of political science, Asian studies, and historical philosophy seeking to understand the roots of Eastern political theory.
