Frontispiece light offset on title page, very light water staining to the last three gatherings, otherwise a clean, crisp copy. Twentieth century (?) cloth backed boards, the title lettered in gilt directly on the spine, new endpapers, armorial book plate of W.B. Thornton on the front pastedown. a very good plus copy.2346 diagrams of game positions, and games. The games include Philidor's; Count Bruhl ; Mr. Bowdler ; and Mr Conway etc. This is a book that is reasonably well held institutionally but is not seen than often for sale.
