The Navy has proposed a reduction of 35 of its flag officers in 1974, 75 and 76. Twenty-six of these would be from the Unrestricted Line, three from the Restricted Line and six from the Staff Corps. One of the latter reductions would be from the Chaplain Corps, leaving a single Rear Admiral among approximately 860 chaplains.
Chaplaincy committees and executives of several major religious bodies have expressed concern to the Secretary of the Navy regarding the wisdom and rationale for includ ing the chaplaincy in this proposed reduction. The chap lainey in each of the military services has had two generals Or admirals on active duty for many years. They have not contributed to the great inflation of general and flag officers in other areas. It is interesting to note that the Army and Air Force recently selected new brigadier generals to be assigned as Deputy Chiefs of Chaplains. Only the Navy proposes to move in the opposite direction.

Reseña del editor
At a chapel service a few days after his death Concordia Seminary expressed its thanks for the Christian life and work of Dr. Piepkorn. From that memorial service we repeat here the informative biographical summary and the loving tribute from his seminary colleagues:
"Arthur Carl Piepkorn was born at Milwaukee, Wisconsin, June 21, 1907, the son of John Albert and Bertha, nee Taenzer, Piepkorn. He was graduated from Concordia College, Milwaukee, in 1925, and from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, in 1928. Encouraged to Semitic studies by the late Walter A. Maier, he earned a doctorate at the University of Chicago by 1932 with a specialty in Babylonian archaeology. He was ordained in 1930 and served pastorates in St. Louis, Missouri; Chisholm, Minnesota, and Cleveland, Ohio. From 1940 to 1951 he was on active duty as an army chaplain, the senior chaplain of the U.S. occupational forces in Germany in 1945, the commandant of the Chaplain School in Pennsylvania 1948 to 1950, and president of the Chaplain Board 1950-1951. When he retired in 1967 he had received thirteen medals and decorations. He returned to academic pursuits in 1951 with election as professor of systematics at Concordia Seminary. A superb combination of thoroughness, excellence and cordiality marked his service in various fields: the symbolical books of the Lutheran Church (cotranslator of the Tappert edition), liturgical studies and practices, leader in doctrinal conversations with the Roman Catholic Church, medieval and Reformation paleography. His service record lists twenty major fields of publication and editorial pursuits. In these, as well as in his fifteen minute chapel addresses at the Seminary, he exerted excellence both painstaking and colorful, which his hearers and associates accepted from a man who was basically a kind helper. His death interrupts completion of The Religious Bodies in the United States and Canada: A Profile of Beliefs. He was married in 1936 to Miriam Agatha Sodergren, who survives him with daughters Mary (Mrs. Edward E. Eckart), Faith (Mrs. Richard E. Hoffmann), Felicity (Mrs. James C. Steere), and Angela. Seldom has a man in one lifetime achieved such a measure at once of respect and affection.

Descripción de la tienda
We first started out as “The Paperback Exchange,” a chain of physical bookstores where we would part exchange your beloved books for new stories to transport you to faraway places. However, as shopping started to evolve to online shops and marketplaces, we bid our stores goodbye to become “PBShop.” This transition has only allowed us to blossom as we now ship thousands of titles to book lovers across the globe. We pride ourselves in being a community of local book lovers which allows our passion and devotion to shine in everything we do. In 2020 we not only celebrated our 20th birthday but our 1st birthday as being completely employee owned after becoming an E.O.T in September 2019. We are proud to be different and embrace standing apart on a book mountain by working from a virtual inventory which allows us to provide thousands of books that may be difficult to get for your bookshelf or your studies.
