lxxvii, [1], 224 p.; 19.5 cm. [title continues] York and Philadelphia, U.S.A. -- Contents: Preface -- Introduction: of the Holy Eucharist, of the priesthood, of lay baptism, of holy matrimony, of the sufficiency of grace, of post-mortem probation, of endless rewards and punishments, of Holy Scripture, of the "kenosis" of God the Son -- Catholic papers [unsigned]: The inspiration of Holy Scripture; The deutero-canonical books of the Old Testament and the ante-Nicene fathers; Science and mrracles; The doctrinal system underlying the prayer book and articles; Fasting reception of the Holy Communion; The indissolubility of marriage; The anointing of the sick. -- From the preface: `As of old in St. Paul's day, so now;--many are these voices heard in the Church, and far too many of them with a very bad signification. Many, indeed, are these voices going out to day; and their din and confusion, to those who long for a stable faith, and fixed convictions in religious belief, verily is only as the discordant cry from another huge Tower of Babel, rising before our eyes! Amidst them all, may the Holy Ghost shew us what is the Catholic Faith.' Good ex-lib. orig. red cloth. Paper title-piece rubbed.…
